MS courses at MAHE

General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Orthopedics, Otorhinolaryngology

DURATION - 3 years (the duration of MD course is 2 years for those with a 2 year recognized diploma in the same specialty).

 

ELIGIBILITY

CITIZENSHIP : Indian Nationals can apply under the General, MAHE or In-service category. Foreign nationals or Non Resident Indians or Indian nationals supported by NRI relatives can apply under the Foreign/NRI category. To qualify under the NRI category, candidates must be NRIs or must be supported by either Parents, Brothers/Sisters, Spouse, Spouse's parents or Spouse's brothers/sisters having an NRI status.

Candidates supported by cousin brother/sister, uncle, aunt, brother-in-law (excluding spouse's brother) or any other person will not be accepted.

 

QUALIFICATIONS : Pass in MBBS or equivalent degree recognised by Medical Council of India. Those applying under MAHE category must have studied and passed MBBS degree from constituent institutions of MAHE.

 

INTERNSHIP: Candidates completing their compulsory rotating internship on or before 30.04.05 are eligible.

 

REGISTRATION : Candidates should have obtained permanent registration with Medical Council of India or any of the State Medical Councils or should obtain the same within one month from the date of admission.

ADMISSIONS

GENERAL/FORIEGN/NRI/IN-SERVICE CATEGORY: Admissions are made on the basis of rank obtained in the all India Medical Postgraduate Entrance Test (MPET).

 

MAHE CATEGORY : Admissions are made on the basis of marks obtained in MPET  and the marks obtained by the candidate in the theory papers of all subjects in the university examination.

 

In addition to the above, a few seats in K M C, Mangalore are reserved for candidates selected and sponsored by Director of Medical Education, Government of Karnataka, Bangalore.

 

Candidates can apply either under General /MAHE/In-service category or Foreign/NRI category. Those submitting applications under both General/MAHE/In-service and Foreign/NRI categories will be considered only under the General category. Change of category at a later stage will not be entertained under any circumstances.

 

NOTE FOR FOREIGN/NRI CATEGORY

Foreign nationals or candidates holding foreign degrees must write to the Medical Council of India to obtain a temporary registration for the duration of the postgraduate training. Such candidates must be registered as medical practitioners in the country from which they have obtained their basic medical qualification. Also, their degrees must be recognised by the corresponding Medical Council or by any other equivalent authority.

NOTE FOR MAHE CATEGORY

Upto 25% of total number of postgraduate degree and diploma seats are reserved for candidates who have studied and passed their MBBS from KMC Manipal and Mangalore, against a 3 years service agreement to serve MAHE or sister institutions after completion of the course. The reservation is subject to a minimum of one seat in each postgraduate degree/diploma and a maximum not exceeding 25% of the total number of seats available in a particular subject. All fractional numbers are to be ignored in computing these seats. These candidates are also eligible for general category seats according to their general category ranks. These candidates will pay the same fees as applicable to the candidates under the general category.

 

Transferred candidates to MAHE should have done not less than 60% of the entire course from the constituent institutions of MAHE. Candidates who have taken transfer from MAHE to other colleges after pre-clinical stage are not eligible under this category. Candidates who have passed only the PG Diploma but not their qualifying examination from the constituent institutions of MAHE are also not eligible to apply under this category.

 

NOTE FOR IN-SERVICE CATEGORY

Based on the requirements of the department/institution, a few seats are reserved under this category. Seat allocation in this category depends on the need for getting faculty in a particular specialisation, which will be decided from time to time. Such candidates must be ready to give a service agreement to serve MAHE or sister institutions for atleast 5 years after completion of the course.

 

To be eligible, the candidate must be a MAHE graduate or graduated from any of the sister institutions under the Manipal group and working as tutor for atleast 1 year and/or the parent/spouse working in any of the MAHE or sister institutions for atleast 5 years at the time of selection.

 

Candidates or the parent/spouse who are not working at the time of admission, as above will not be considered under this category. These candidates will pay the same fees as applicable to the candidates under the general category.

 

MPET

SCHEDULE - Sunday, LAST WEEK OF MARCH, 10 a m to 1 p m

 

TEST PATTERN - There will be one question paper of 200 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) of the objective type. The approximate distribution of questions is given below. The test will be of 3 hours duration and carries 600 marks. The question paper will be in English.

 

MPET: Medicine including Paediatrics, Genetics, Dermatology & Venereology etc. (40), Surgery including Orthopaedics, Trauma and Anaesthesiology (30), Obstetrics & Gynaecology (20), Community Medicine (20), Physiology (14), Pharmacology (14), Pathology (14), Anatomy(10), Otorhinolaryngology (10), Ophthalmology (10), Biochemistry (6), Microbiology (6), Forensic Medicine (6).

 

TEST CENTRES

BANGALORE, CHENNAI, DELHI, ERNAKULAM, HYDERABAD, KOLKATA, MANIPAL, MANGALORE, MUMBAI.

 

HALL TICKET

The Hall Ticket will be despatched only by Certificate of Posting or Business Mail so as to reach the candidates by 1st week of MARCH. In case the Hall Ticket is not received by the above date, follow the instructions mentioned in the Hall Ticket Procedure section to obtain a Duplicate Hall Ticket.

 

MERIT LIST

Based on the marks obtained in MPET 05, MAHE will declare a list of candidates in the order of merit separately for Foreign/NRI and General category. Merit list will be displayed on 05.04.05 on the notice boards of MAHE and the website.

 

MERIT LIST FOR MAHE CATEGORY

The merit list is prepared by taking 50% each of the marks scored in MPET  and total marks scored in all the university theory papers of MBBS. One percentage of marks will be deducted for each failure from the above total. Each failure in a particular subject will be counted as one; for example for a candidate failing in Anatomy and Physiology in a particular examination, the number of failures is counted as two. Non appearance in a particular subject of an examination for whatever reason is also counted as a failure.

 

Merit list for MAHE category candidates will be displayed on 11.04.05 on the notice board of MAHE and in website.

 

MAHE category candidates who do not submit attested copies of marks cards of all attempts for each semester/year and attempt certificate along with FORM 1 will not be considered under this category.

 

ADDITIONAL MARKS

All candidates possessing a 2 year post graduate diploma from a recognized university will be given 5% additional marks and ranked in the merit list. Such candidates will be considered for admission/ wait listing for only the course in which they possess the PG Diploma. They will also be given a rank without the benefit of 5% additional marks, against which they will be considered for admission/wait listing for any other course available during their turn in the counseling.

 

Candidates with PG Diploma must enclose an attested copy of the certificate along with FORM 1, without which the additional marks will not be awarded.

 

Counseling:

Counseling Procedure and other relevant details can be obtained from the Counselling section. Changes if any, will be notified in the website.

Tuition Fee : Rs. 2,50,000

Other Fees : Rs. 64,000

Total Fees : Rs. 3,14,000

 

FOR/NRI -

Tuition Fee : USD 14,000

Other Fees : USD 3,500

Total Fees : USD 17,500

 

NOTE (1): In addition to the above all the candidates are required to pay the following at the time of admission.

• Rs.3,500 towards the registration for General, MAHE and In-service category candidates.

• USD 300 towards the registration for Foreign/NRI category candidates.

• Rs. 7,500 towards refundable Caution Deposit only for General, MAHE and In-service category candidates.

 

NOTE (2): Fee remittance - General/MAHE/In-Service category students: Candidates are required to remit tuition & other fees/registration fee/caution deposit only by demand draft drawn in favour of MAHE payable at Manipal or Udupi or Bangalore.

 

Demand drafts must be crossed and Payees A/c only

 

NOTE (3): Fee remittance _ NRI/Foreign category students: Candidates are required to remit tuition & other fees/admission formalities fee only in US Dollars. The fee may be remitted by Wire transfer /demand draft. Indian students supported by relatives with NRI status may remit the equivalent Indian rupees provided an inward remittance certificate accompanies the payment from the bank issuing the draft.

NOTE (5): All candidates must pay the fees at the time of counselling/admission. Failure to pay the fees on or before the date(s) specified will result in the instantaneous forfeiture of the seat as well as any fees already paid except caution deposit. Tuition & other fees for the subsequent years must be remitted before the commencement of the academic year on the dates to be notified irrespective of the academic progress of the student.

NOTE (7): Candidates admitted under Foreign/NRI category to MD in non clinical specialities like Anatomy, Biochemistry, Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine, Microbiology, Pathology, Pharmacology and Physiology, the annual fees is USD 8,000 (tuition fee USD 5,000, other fees USD 3,000).

 

NOTE (8): Candidates admitted under In-service category are required to execute a service agreement to serve for a period of 5 years or such extended period as may be stated in the agreement in any of the constituent colleges/associated hospitals of MAHE or any of the institution of the Manipal group after the completion of the course. However they have to pay the Tuition & other fees in full.

 

NOTE (9) : Candidates admitted under MAHE Category are required to execute a service agreement to serve for a period of 3 years or such extended period as may be stated in the agreement in any of the constituent colleges/associated hospitals of MAHE or any of the institution of the Manipal group after the completion of the course. However they have to pay the Tuition & other fees in full.
