MD / MS / PG Diploma-2006

 
MD : Anaesthesiology, Anatomy, Biochemistry, Community Medicine, Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy, Forensic Medicine, General Medicine, Hospital Administration, Microbiology, Paediatrics, Pathology. Pharmacology, Physiology, Psychiatry, Radio-diagnosis, Radio-therapy
MS : General Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Opthalmology, Orthopaedics, Otorhinolaryngology
PG Diploma : Anaesthesiology, Clinical Pathology, Child Health, Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Opthalmology, Orthopaedics, Otorhinolaryngology, Psychiatry, Radio-diagnosis
 
Duration : 3 years (the duration of MD and MS courses is 2 years for those with a 2 year recognized diploma in the same speciality). The duration of all PG diploma courses is 2 years.

Eligibility

 
Citizenship : Indian Nationals can apply under the General, MAHE or In-service category. Foreign nationals or Non Resident Indians or Indian nationals supported by NRI relatives can apply under the Foreign/NRI category. To qualify under the NRI category, candidates must be NRIs or must be supported by either Parents, Brothers/Sisters, Spouse, Spouse's parents or Spouse's brothers/sisters having an NRI status. Candidates supported by cousin brother/sister, uncle, aunt, brother-in-law (excluding spouse's brother) or any other person will not be accepted.
Qualifications : Pass in MBBS or equivalent degree recognized by Medical Council of India. Those applying under MAHE category must have studied and passed MBBS degree from KMC Manipal & Mangalore.
Internship : Candidates completing their compulsory rotating internship on or before 30.04.06 are eligible. Candidates completing internship after 30.04.06 are not eligible for admission in this academic year.
 
Registration: Candidates should have obtained permanent registration with Medical Council of India or any of the State Medical Council or should obtain the same within one month from the date of admission.
 

ADMISSIONS

General/Foreign/NRI/IN-Service Category : Admissions are made on the basis of rank obtained in the all India ONLINE Medical Postgraduate Entrance Test (OMPET 06).
MAHE Category: Admissions are made on the basis of marks obtained in OMPET 06 and the marks obtained by the candidate in the theory papers of all subjects in the university examination.

In addition to the above, a few seats in K M C, Mangalore are reserved for candidates selected and sponsored by Director of Medical Education, Government of Karnataka, Bangalore.

Candidates can apply either under General/MAHE/In-service category or Foreign/NRI category. Those submitting applications under both General/MAHE/In-service and Foreign/NRI categories will be considered only under the General category. Change of category at a later stage will not be entertained under any circumstances.
 

NOTE FOR FOREIGN/NRI CATEGORY

Foreign nationals or candidates holding foreign degrees must write to the Medical Council of India to obtain a temporary registration for the duration of the postgraduate training. Such candidates must be registered as Medical practitioners in the country from which they have obtained their basic Medical qualification. Also, their degrees must be recognized by the corresponding Medical Council or by any other equivalent authority.
 

NOTE FOR MAHE CATEGORY

Upto 25% of total number of postgraduate degree and diploma seats are reserved for candidates who have studied and passed their MBBS from KMC Manipal and Mangalore, against a 3 years service agreement to serve MAHE or sister institutions after completion of the course. The reservation is subject to a minimum of one seat in each postgraduate degree/diploma and a maximum not exceeding 25% of the total number of seats available in a particular subject. All fractional numbers are to be ignored in computing these seats. These candidates are also eligible for general category seats according to their general category ranks. These candidates will pay the same fees as applicable to the candidates under the general category.

Transferred candidates to MAHE should have done not less than 60% of the entire course from the constituent institutions of MAHE. Candidates who have taken transfer from MAHE to other colleges after pre-clinical stage are not eligible under this category. Candidates who have passed only the PG Diploma but not their qualifying examination from the constituent institutions of MAHE are also not eligible to apply under this category.
 

NOTE FOR IN-SERVICE CATEGORY

Based on the requirements of the department/institution, a few seats are reserved under this category. Seat allocation in this category depends on the need for getting faculty in a particular specialization, which will be decided from time to time. Such candidates must be ready to give a service agreement to serve MAHE or sister institutions for atleast 5 years after completion of the course.

Only the children or spouse of staff members working in MAHE or sister institutions are eligible under this category. Suitable weightages will be given for the length of service in preparing the merit list.

Candidates will not be considered under this category if their parent/spouse are not working at the time of admission.

These candidates will pay the same fees as applicable to the candidates under the general category.
 

OMPET 06

Schedule : The online test will be held between 03.04.06 and 10.04.06. There will be 3 tests held in a given day. The exact time and date for a given candidate will be alloted randomly and informed through the hall ticket.
Test Pattern : There will be one question paper of 200 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) of the objective type. The approximate distribution of questions is given below. The test will be of 3 hours duration and carries 600 marks. The question paper will be in English
OMPET : Medicine including Paediatrics, Genetics, Dermatology & Venereology etc. (40), Surgery including Orthopaedics, Trauma and Anaesthesiology (30), Obstetrics & Gynaecology (20), Community Medicine (20), Physiology (14), Pharmacology (14), Pathology (14), Anatomy (10), Otorhinolaryngology (10), Ophthalmology (10), Biochemistry (6), Microbiology (6), Forensic Medicine (6).

HALL TICKET

The Hall Ticket will be despatched only by Certificate of Posting or Business Mail so as to reach the candidates by 07.03.06. In case the Hall Ticket is not received by the above date, the candidate should follow the procedure given in Hall Ticket section to obtain a Duplicate Hall Ticket.
 

MERIT LIST

Based on the marks obtained in OMPET 06, MAHE will declare a list of candidates in the order of merit separately for Foreign/NRI and General category. Merit list will be displayed on 12.04.06 on the notice board of MAHE and the website.
 

MERIT LIST FOR MAHE CATEGORY

The merit list is prepared by taking 50% each of the marks scored in OMPET 06 and total marks scored in all the university theory papers of MBBS. One percentage of marks will be deducted for each failure from the above total. Each failure in a particular subject will be counted as one; for example for a candidate failing in Anatomy and Physiology in a particular examination, the number of failures is counted as two. Non appearance in a particular subject of an examination for whatever reason is also counted as a failure.
 
Merit list for MAHE category candidates will be displayed on 12.04.06 on the notice board of MAHE and the website.
 
MAHE category candidates who do not submit attested copies of marks cards of all attempts for each semester/year and attempt certificate along with FORM 2 will not be considered under this category.
 

ADDITIONAL MARKS

All candidates possessing a 2 year post graduate diploma from a recognized university will be given 5% additional marks and ranked in the merit list. Such candidates will be considered for admission/waitlisting for only the course in which they possess the PG Diploma. They will also be given a rank without the benefit of 5% additional marks, against which they will be considered for admission/waitlisting for any other course available during their turn in the counselling.

Candidates with PG Diploma must enclose an attested copy of the certificate along with FORM 2, without which the additional marks will not be awarded.
 

COUNSELING

The first round of counselling will be held from 24.04.06 to 29.04.06. The following candidates are eligible to attend the first round of counselling:
Foreign/NRI Category:All candidates included in the OMPET merit list for this category
General Category: : Candidates from rank 1 to rank 400 of OMPET merit list for this category. The remaining candidates are eligible to attend the second round of counselling to be held on 09.05.06.
MAHE Category :: All candidates of MAHE Medical merit
IN-Service Category :: All the eligible candidates in the order of their OMPET merit
 
If seats remain vacant after the first round of counselling, the remaining candidates will be considered in the order of merit for the second round of counselling. CLASSES

The classes will commence from 02.05.06.
 

IMPORTANT NOTE

 
Candidates should go through details on the computer based ONLINE entrance test.
Candidates are required to send the following on or before 28.02.06:
General/Foreign category: FORM 1, FORM 2, DD for Rs.800 and PG diploma certificate, if any.
NRI category: FORM 1 + FORM 2 + DD for Rs.800 + PG diploma certificate, if any + Photocopy of Notary affidavit by the sponsoring relative from the country of residence. Click here to down load the format.
MAHE category: FORM 1, FORM 2, DD for Rs.800 and PG diploma certificate, if any Attested photocopies of marks cards of all attempts for each semester/year of qualifying examination and Attempt certificate.
In-service category: FORM 1 + FORM 2 + DD for Rs.800 + PG diploma certificate, if any + Photocopy of experience certificate of parent or spouse for working in any of the MAHE or sister institutions.
 
Only one application should be submitted for MD, MS and PG diploma courses. All the marks cards, certificates, notary affidavit etc. should be stapled with FORM 2.
